Max Understood by Nancy Carlin and Michael Rasbury

Max Understood is “consistently fascinating” (TheatreMania), “gorgeous and heartrending” (Talkin’ Broadway), “fascinating and complicated” (Broadway World), “memorable” (American Theater Magazine) and “an unusual, sophisticated piece of new musical theater” (Chad Jones, Theater Dogs) about a 7 year old boy with autism who embarks on a transformative odyssey beyond the confines of his parents’ apartment.

Max Understood was developed at the Eugene O’Neill National Musical Theater Conference in 2008, directed by Jack Cummings III, then at the New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF) directed by David Schweizer in 2009 (Talking Broadway’s “Outstanding New Musical”). It was further developed during a residency at the University of Virginia, directed by Charles Otte. It premiered at the Cowell Theater in San Francisco, produced by the Paul Dresher Ensemble and directed by David Schweizer in 2015. click for more info and to hear the music.
